Dr. Julie Keller helps prep the new UH Medina Health Center for business. University Hospitals is gearing up to open its newest health center Monday — the UH Medina Health Center.

Services will include full-service outpatient services, bringing all the area’s UH-affiliated physicians into one building, along with specialty services, including UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital and the UH Harrington-McLaughlin Heart & Vascular Institute.

“It provides all the ambulatory-care services,” said James Benedict, senior vice president of ambulatory operations. “All under one roof.”

Expanding the hospital system’s presence in Medina and Summit counties was part of UH’s Vision 2010 strategic plan, where UH contributed a $10 million investment to the Medina Health Center and a $3 million investment to the UH Sharon Health Center.

“Medina was picked because of its growth of population,” Benedict said. “We have a lot of doctors in the market there.”

UH-affiliated physicians will be moving into the former Waterford Office Park at 4001 Carrick Drive. Doctors have been spread throughout the county, but now patients will only have to travel to one building for their needs. Specialty doctors from the UH network, including allergy and cardiovascular specialists, also will be serving Medina residents.

“We obviously had a need to provide services for the patients there,” said Dr. Michael Nochomovitz, president of physician services for UH. “This is really a responsive methodology to community needs.”

Services provided at the 33,000-square-foot health center will include laboratory, radiology (diagnostic testing), internal medicine, family medicine, corporate health, adult allergy and immunology, cardiology, general surgery, pediatric medicine and child and adolescent psychology.

X-ray capability is just one of the services provided at the new UH Medina Health Center. A Rainbow Specialty Office is located on the second floor of the health center. Services include pediatric allergy and immunization, cardiology, developmental behavior, gastroenterology, nephrology, neurology, nutrition, orthopedics, general surgeons, rheumatology and urology. UH also intends to add pediatric pulmonology and pediatric hematology/oncology soon.

“We like to do our best to meet the needs,” Nochomovitz said. “My guess is there will be more and more of these specialists coming down there.”

The Urgent Care Center will be open 364 days a year, closing only on Christmas Day. The center will treat both adults and children for minor injuries and illnesses. Pediatric urgent care will be part of the Rainbow Urgent Care.

The new UH Medina Health Center will be open to patients on Monday. An open house will be held May 4.
